Eagles took second place at New England Open, posting a 6-1 record with big wins over UMass and Brown in bracket play before falling late to Vermont 15 – 11. The team played inspiring defense and looked to be peaking at the right time heading into the series. Two hard weeks of practice to follow.

2011: Protect This House

The stage is set.

In less than 3 weeks, BC will be taking its talents to Chapel Hill to face off against 9 other teams in the third annual ACC Ultimate Championships. This will not only be an opportunity to gauge the team’s continuing improvement from a very successful fall season, but also to showcase a new look offense and a revamped defense that will feature the return of key players like #3 Ben Canary and #16 Mike Francel. Led by captains #13 Chuck McBride and #2 Jim Kearney, the spoons in maroon will introduce several new faces at ACCs as the team marks the culmination of A team tryouts for the spring. Following ACCs, the Eagles travel to Tallahassee to compete in the Tally Classic at FSU. Nationals-level competition and a weekend full of challenges surely awaits. This will give BC the chance to make a statement to the rest of the country before returning to Boston to regroup, reload, and prepare themselves for conference play by taking on New England’s best at the NE Open.

We would like to thank everyone, including coaches, alumni, parents, friends, and BC Club Sports for all of your support. Now its time to cash it in. We must protect this house.

Winter is here

The BC Ultimate fall season ended with a 15-13 win over Bentley to finish 9th at Brownian Motion’s Huck A Huck O’ Burning Pumpkin tournament in Portsmouth, RI. Not too far away in Kingston RI the combined B/D team had an inspiring performance against tough competition at URI’s Brisk Winds tournament. Now that the fall has come to a close, the Eagles look to regroup and begin a hard and dedicated off-season winter training program that will get us in shape for the spring. The officers will be putting this program together over the next few weeks, but it’s never too early to get started. Check out this site for some good ideas: http://ultitraining.wordpress.com/. Saturday

BC vs. SUNY-Albany

In our first game of the weekend, the team came out firing. With all-around explosive defense and consistent, fluid offense, we were able to start the weekend out right. We had a 7-2 lead at halftime and were able to finish strong with some hard fought man-to-man defense. BC 13 SUNY-Albany 5

BC vs. Yale-X

Entering this game, the wind started to pick up, and so did the pressure of the BC defense. We started working in some zone defense into the game and it was too much to handle for a short-staffed Yale squad. We had a short lapse at the beginning, going down 2-1, but pushed the tempo and never looked back. There was some great dump defense by Theo, Savi, and Topanga in this game. BC 13 Yale 3

BC vs. RIT

The wind was really fighting and almost every break turned into 2 because of upwind/downwind points. While the D line was getting multiple turns on every possession, it was always tough to work it upwind for the score. The offense was very effective going downwind, and had a lot of short points due to RIT players being exhausted from our D line running them around for long O points. BC 11 RIT 7

BC vs. Amherst

In a matchup to determine the winner of pool A, BC came out extremely hot vs. Amherst, Taking half 7 – 2. In the second half, our offense had a couple tough breaks and Amherst made it a game at 12-9. The hard cap went on after a long game though, and BC finished the day 4-0. BC 12 Amherst 10

Sunday

BC vs. Clarkson

After a first round bye, BC was facing Clarkson in the quarter-finals. The D line came out fighting with key contributions from Dave Chou, Thomas, and Gambit (sweet high-flying catches). With the game almost out of hand for Clarkson, they started to give up, but BC fought through the adversity and maintained our composure to roll. The O-Line broke their cup all day and finished off with a magical thumber from Alex Northcutt to finish the game. BC 13 Clarkson 3

BC vs. Amherst

In a rematch from the previous day, we faced off against Amherst. They opened up by breaking our O-Line, but our defense got it back almost immediately. With Sam and Chuck patrolling the skies, and Dylan getting open all over, we started to really click vs. Amherst’s man-to-man defense. We kept roplling through a solid first half and finished off Amherst to advance to the finals. BC 13 Amherst 5

FINALS: BC vs. Yale-A

After Yale combined their two teams for Sunday, their numbers were higher and their play was improved. The story of our defense this game was simple, let Topanga go to work. From end zone isolation plays, to lay-out D’s, to a 2^nd half Callahan, Topanga ran the show this game. Our defense locked down their handler movements and frustrated the opponent with savage man defense. The offense did well to be patient and work solid in-cuts up the field. BC 13 Yale 6

Alumni Weekend

It is my great honor the announce the 2010 Boston College Ultimate Alumni Game. This year it will be held on Saturday November 13th from 12PM – 4PM in St. John’s Seminary at BC. We would like to continue to make this a weekend long event for the alumni and the team. We will be planning a series of different events for everyone to enjoy over the course of the weekend, including an auction to raise money for the team and a party afterwards. There will be a grill and plenty of food for everyone during the game. More details will follow.
